The Republic of Tatarstan is an autonomous region of Russa steeped in a history going back to the middle ages. Today it is a young, vibrant and forward looking region of Russia which still embraces it’s rich heritage. We were asked to collaborate on a brand for Tatarstan Culture and Heritage and create an identity system that was fluid enough to carry the weight of the past but still appeal to a younger more progressive generation. We created a system of parts which played on the ideas of celebration, forward movement, unification and strength. The Batyr horse-riding archer emerged as a powerful symbol of progressiveness alongside the traditional symbols of weave and arrowheads which we incorporated into a storytelling system that landed on print, digital, signage and across a multitude of merchandising opportunities.
